ON Monday, August 3, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, held a phone call with Mr. Félix Plasencia, the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
During the call, Minister Abdelatty extended his warm congratulations to his Venezuelan counterpart on assuming his new role. He also conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, reaffirming Egypt’s full solidarity—leadership, government, and people—with Venezuela following the two recent devastating earthquakes and the resulting human and material losses.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized that the Egyptian humanitarian aid dispatched to Venezuela on Monday, August 3—delivered under the directives of President El-Sisi—reflects Egypt’s commitment to standing by the Venezuelan people during this critical time. He noted that the gesture embodies the deep historical ties between the two nations, which span over 75 years. The Minister added that ongoing coordination with Venezuelan authorities will ensure their immediate humanitarian needs are monitored, with Egypt assessing further assistance to support Venezuela’s recovery efforts.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying bilateral cooperation across various sectors, building on their shared history. Minister Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s keen interest in boosting economic and investment ties, offering Egypt’s willingness to contribute to post-earthquake reconstruction by leveraging the extensive expertise of Egyptian infrastructure and construction firms.
The call also covered regional and international developments. Minister Abdelatty briefed his Venezuelan counterpart on Egypt’s intensive diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and prioritize political solutions to regional crises. In turn, Mr. Plasencia outlined recent developments in Latin America. Both ministers exchanged perspectives on their respective regions, agreeing that military approaches cannot resolve conflicts and that dialogue remains the sole path to achieving lasting peace and stability.
Closing the conversation, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister expressed profound appreciation for the timely Egyptian humanitarian aid, praising Egypt’s steadfast position and principled support for the Venezuelan people in the wake of the disaster.
