In a meeting where parliamentary diplomacy intersected with strategic vision, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan received a delegation from the Arab Parliament, headed by H.E. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, during an official visit reflecting the growing momentum in Arab–Azerbaijani relations.
The encounter was more than ceremonial. It conveyed a clear message that Baku views its Arab ties as a strategic extension of its foreign policy architecture. President Aliyev emphasized the importance of expanding parliamentary cooperation between the Arab Parliament and the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, stressing that Arab–Islamic solidarity remains an urgent priority in navigating today’s geopolitical challenges.
At the heart of the discussions stood the Palestinian question. The Speaker of the Arab Parliament commended Azerbaijan’s support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. President Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to the two-state solution, noting that Palestine has consistently featured in Azerbaijan’s international partnerships. He also recalled Baku’s firm backing of the Palestinian cause during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, where resolutions aligned with relevant UN decisions were adopted.
Notably, President Aliyev announced Azerbaijan’s intention to provide additional financial assistance to Gaza and to contribute to social development projects within reconstruction efforts—underscoring that diplomatic positions must be matched by tangible action.
On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation laid a wreath at the Victory Monument and visited the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev, paying tribute to the statesman whose legacy continues to shape Azerbaijan’s balanced foreign policy between East and West.
Commentary:
This visit highlights the growing relevance of parliamentary diplomacy as a bridge between capitals. It signals Azerbaijan’s ambition to consolidate its role as a connector between the Arab world and the broader Eurasian space. In a time of overlapping crises, Palestine emerges as both a moral and political touchstone—redefining partnerships not merely through declarations, but through concrete commitments.
