The Palestinian cause has never been absent from any international or regional forum on the Middle East. It is not merely a political issue, but embodies the essence of justice and the right of peoples to self-determination, remaining at once a cause of conscience and identity for the Arab nation.

From this perspective, it was natural for Algeria’s voice to resonate strongly at the United Nations Conference on the Two-State Solution, held in New York on September 22, 2025, where the event witnessed several states recognizing the State of Palestine.

In his address, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf stressed that the global consensus on the two-state solution is the fundamental guarantee for a just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian–Israeli conflict, and the strongest response to Israeli expansionist policies and the illusion of “Greater Israel.”

He underlined that the current moment no longer allows for slogans alone, but requires a shift from rhetoric to action through:

  • Expanding international recognition of Palestine.
  • Supporting its full membership in the United Nations.
  • Countering occupation through diplomatic, legal, and economic means.
  • Restoring Palestinian unity and the independence of national decision-making.

This stance is not new to Algeria. Since its independence, Algeria has made support for Palestine a cornerstone of its foreign policy. It was among the first to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and played a pivotal role in 1974 in granting it observer status at the UN. The historic milestone came in 1988, when Algeria hosted the Proclamation of the State of Palestine in Algiers, which quickly led to recognition by over 100 states within months.

Today, under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria reaffirms its commitment to rallying global recognition and strengthening Palestine’s international standing, emphasizing that the Palestinian cause is not just political, but a struggle for freedom, dignity, and human justice deeply embedded in the memory and conscience of the Arab world.

Algeria’s anti-colonial struggle against French occupation converges with Egypt’s resistance against British colonialism, forming a shared Arab memory of rejecting imperialism. Together, these experiences fuel a unified commitment to defending Palestine, seen as a fundamental condition for regional stability and a secure future.

Indeed, Palestine remains the heartbeat of the Arab nation, its mirror of dignity, and its measure of justice. For this reason, the voices of Algeria and Egypt, along with all nations that believe in freedom and peace, will remain united in defending Palestinian rights—for it is the voice of human conscience that cannot be silenced.
