Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, received Ms. Kandia Camara, President of the Senate of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, at the Ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday, May 6. During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty was handed an official letter from President Alassane Ouattara addressed to H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The Minister conveyed the Egyptian President’s warm regards to his Ivorian counterpart.
Minister Abdelatty praised the strong and brotherly relations between Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire, underscoring the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields—particularly in parliamentary, developmental, and economic areas, as well as in mutual investment. He also stressed the need to deepen cooperation in the medical, pharmaceutical, and agricultural sectors, along with boosting tourism between the two nations.
The Minister highlighted the capabilities of Egyptian companies in construction, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure, noting their extensive experience across Africa and the potential for Ivorian benefit from Egyptian expertise.
On the parliamentary front, Minister Abdelatty pointed to the recent progress in legislative relations, citing the successful visit of Mr. Adama Bictogo, President of the Ivorian National Assembly, to Cairo in February 2024. He announced the completion of the Egyptian side of the Egypt–Côte d’Ivoire Parliamentary Friendship Committee and emphasized its future role in advancing parliamentary cooperation.
Both parties commended the outcomes of the second round of political consultations held in Cairo in October 2024, expressing their commitment to implementing its recommendations and looking forward to the third round of consultations to be hosted in Abidjan at the foreign ministerial level.
In conclusion, Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for Côte d’Ivoire’s support of the African consensus to nominate Dr. Khaled El-Anany as the African Union’s candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, ahead of the elections scheduled in Paris in October 2025.
