Omani media: Sharm el-Sheikh LAS & EU summit, a successful & historic conference

The media in Oman confirmed the success of the Sharm el-Sheikh LAS-EU summit and focused on highlighting the positions and speeches of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. It also added that Egypt has launched a new phase of Arab-European relations after hosting the first summit of the two sides, stressing that this represents a qualitative leap forward.

Omani media have highlighted extensive reports on the conclusion of their work and expected results. It also reviewed the speech delivered by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, stressing that peace-loving peoples will reap the fruits of the success of the summit, in which they agreed to deepen partnership and enhance cooperation and ways to face the various challenges, pointing out that the next summit will be held in Brussels in 2022.

The Omani media also highlighted the most important outcomes of the conference, stressing the start of a stage of strengthening the Arab-European partnership and supporting a real international and multilateral system.

As a result of intensive discussions, the Arab-European consensus was reached to support the resolution of the Libyan crisis, to welcome the ceasefire agreement in Yemen and to cooperate in the fight against terrorism, as well as the commitment of the two sides to cooperate to stop illegal immigration and to dry up sources of support for terrorist groups and to prevent incitement to hatred and racism.

He also called for commitment to common positions for peace in the Middle East.

The Sultanate has participated in the summit since the first moments of the start of its work with a high delegation headed by Mr. Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Relations and International Cooperation and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.

In its analysis of the merits of the final statement, the Omani media focused on the following:

– Commitment to common positions towards the Middle East peace process, the illegality of the settlements and adherence to the two-state solution.
– To evacuate the Middle East from weapons of mass destruction and to resolve the Syrian crisis.
– The commitment of the two sides to cooperate in the field of halting illegal immigration.
– Agreement on resolving the Libyan crisis.
– To support cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and to work on drying up of its sources of funding.
– Welcoming the Stockholm Agreement on Hodeidah, while allowing humanitarian access to Yemen.
