In a scene that epitomizes the enduring legacy of Egyptian diplomacy, Cairo on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, hosted a landmark trilateral meeting between Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The consultations, held under Egypt’s auspices, culminated in the signing of an agreement between Iran and the IAEA to resume technical cooperation — a step hailed as the beginning of a new era of trust-building and a vital contribution to regional and international stability.

Both the Iranian Foreign Minister and the IAEA Director General expressed their deep appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his patronage of this historic event, and for Egypt’s tireless efforts in facilitating dialogue and bridging differences.

Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that this milestone is the fruit of intensive diplomatic efforts led by Minister Badr Abdel Aaty since June, including sustained contacts with both Tehran and the IAEA to lay the groundwork for constructive engagement. These efforts have now borne fruit with an agreement that restores confidence, enhances transparency, and lays a practical framework for verification in Iranian nuclear facilities.

The agreement marks not only a technical breakthrough but also a diplomatic victory, positioning Cairo once again at the heart of geopolitics — as a bridge for rapprochement, and a gateway to peace and stability.
