Chinese Ambassador to Cairo
In 2014, a young Egyptian named Osama traveled to China under the “Outstanding Young Scientists from Asia and Africa” program, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. He joined the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, embarking on a rich and inspiring scientific journey in the heart of China’s diverse landscapes.
Over the years, Osama conducted research across various regions, including Ili, Tacheng, Turpan, and Shihezi, where he witnessed firsthand the harmonious coexistence and collaborative spirit among different ethnic groups in Xinjiang — an experience that left a profound mark on him and made him feel like an integral part of this multicultural society.
Thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative, Xinjiang’s development has accelerated, offering researchers like Osama increasing opportunities to innovate and pursue scientific aspirations. He focused on endemic plant research and contributed to soil salinity improvement and agricultural development in arid regions, playing a vital role in promoting sustainable development in the area.
In 2020, Osama’s efforts were recognized with the prestigious Tianshan Award for Foreign Experts — the highest honorary award in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region — acknowledging his significant contributions to Egypt–China scientific cooperation and celebrating the deep-rooted friendship between the two peoples.
