The Egyptian-Azerbaijani Friendship Association hosted a distinguished seminar on cultural pluralism in Azerbaijan, held at the association’s headquarters in Cairo. The event drew the participation of students and individuals interested in Azerbaijani language and culture.
The seminar opened with a welcoming address by Dr. Seymour Nasirov, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, who expressed his deep appreciation for the historical and growing ties between Egypt and Azerbaijan. He highlighted the impact of recent reciprocal presidential visits in strengthening cooperation between the two nations’ political and cultural elites.
The keynote speaker of the event was Dr. Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Center for Multiculturalism, who delivered an insightful lecture on Azerbaijan’s policy of cultural pluralism and tolerance. He emphasized that multiculturalism is not only a government strategy in Azerbaijan but also a lived reality, shaped by the country’s unique geographic position at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia.
Dr. Hasanov stated:
“In Azerbaijan, every citizen enjoys equal rights regardless of religious or ethnic background. People live in peace, freely practicing their traditions and beliefs. This rare climate of tolerance is steadily growing stronger under the wise leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.”
During the interactive segment of the seminar, Dr. Hasanov engaged in an open discussion with students studying the Azerbaijani language. He answered their questions about the practical effects of multiculturalism on Azerbaijani society and expressed his gratitude to the Association for promoting cultural activities that foster stronger bonds between nations — particularly between the Egyptian and Azerbaijani peoples.
The event concluded with a special token of appreciation presented by Dr. Seymour Nasirov to Dr. Ravan Hasanov, in recognition of his contributions and the shared commitment to cultural dialogue and friendship.
