EGYPT is continuing its efforts to recover its archaeological treasures abroad, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the country’s ancient heritage and restoring artifacts that belong to its cultural and historical legacy.
Ambassador Nader Zaki, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad achieved significant results during September, contributing to the recovery of valuable archaeological objects from overseas.
According to the spokesperson, the Egyptian Embassy in Bern succeeded in recovering a rare golden archaeological mask, marking an important addition to Egypt’s ongoing efforts to retrieve antiquities that have found their way outside the country.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Embassy in Beirut succeeded in recovering 74 archaeological artifacts, representing another significant achievement in the protection and restoration of Egypt’s cultural heritage.
The recoveries reflect the growing role of Egyptian diplomatic missions in cooperation with national institutions and foreign authorities to identify, document and facilitate the return of Egyptian antiquities.
For Egypt, archaeological artifacts are far more than objects of historical value. They are fragments of a civilization that has spoken to humanity for thousands of years, carrying stories of its people, beliefs, creativity and achievements across generations.
The recovery of the artifacts also underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property and ensuring that archaeological treasures are preserved in accordance with international law and relevant conventions.
From Bern to Beirut, the return of these treasures carries a message that transcends borders: what belongs to a civilization cannot be separated forever from the memory of its homeland.
As Egypt continues to pursue the recovery of its antiquities, each returned artifact becomes more than a recovered object. It becomes a piece of history coming home — and a silent witness once again returning to the land where its story began.
