FOR Germany, Egypt is a pivotal strategic partner and an anchor of stability in a region currently defined by conflict and tension. Especially in times like these, close and reliable communication with our partners is indispensable. Given Egypt’s political significance and its role in fostering peace and security, it holds special importance in this context.
Consequently, current regional developments will feature prominently in my talks in Cairo. Specifically, we will focus on how we can jointly contribute to stabilization and reconstruction. Moreover, developments in the Red Sea and the security of vital international maritime routes demonstrate the direct global impact of regional crises. This is why Germany relies on dialogue, diplomacy, and close cooperation with partners like Egypt.
Global food security will be another key topic on our agenda. As Russia continues its path of war, we wish to emphasize once more that Ukraine remains ready for negotiations. Making progress on grain exports would mark a crucial step forward, as these shipments are desperately needed, particularly across the Global South.
At the same time, what unites our two nations extends far beyond crisis management. Our relations are deep and multifaceted—spaning politics, economics, science, education, and culture. It is therefore a particular pleasure for me to be in Cairo on the occasion of German Unity Day and to celebrate this milestone alongside our Egyptian partners and friends.
These close ties are also reflected in our vibrant academic and societal exchanges. I am very much looking forward to attending the graduation ceremony at the German University in Cairo (GUC)—an institution that serves as a prime example of the fruitful bond between our countries.
Ultimately, my visit to Cairo offers a welcome opportunity to continue our close dialogue on the pressing political challenges of our time, while simultaneously strengthening a rich, historic, and multifaceted German-Egyptian partnership.
