The activities of the BRICS group dominated discussions at the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, particularly during sessions on the future of the global economy. These sessions emphasized the advancement of a multipolar world, the expansion of trade relations, and the need to reform global financial institutions.
A key session titled “BRICS and Partners: Towards a New Shared Future” explored the growing cooperation with countries such as Egypt, Belarus, Cuba, and Thailand. Speakers highlighted the strategic value of these partnerships, affirming that BRICS has opened new markets and opportunities for all involved nations.
Participants stressed that BRICS is increasingly becoming a promising platform for mutual benefit among developing nations, especially amid ongoing global transformations. The group, they argued, offers viable alternatives to existing global economic pressures by focusing on critical sectors such as infrastructure, digitalization, and healthcare.
They also underscored the role of the St. Petersburg Forum as an effective global platform for economic dialogue and a key space for international business communities to engage and cooperate.
On the sidelines of the forum, several high-level sessions were held, including:
-
“International Trade and Climate Regulation: Barrier-Free Solutions for BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, and APEC”, focusing on practical solutions to trade and climate challenges.
-
“BRICS Media: Defending Freedom of Expression and Promoting an Alternative Cultural and Media Agenda”, which called for a shift in global narratives and the empowerment of non-Western voices.
-
“The Growing Role of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization”, which discussed the shaping of a more just and inclusive global economic order.
