Minister bin Farhan at the ‘Davos Economic Forum’: The Middle East looks forward to a better future despite current challenges

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated yesterday in a general session entitled “Diplomacy in Times of Chaos”, as part of the sessions of the World Economic Forum 2025, held in the Swiss city of Davos.

His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed during his participation in the session that the Middle East region has enormous potential that qualifies it to look forward to a better future, despite all the challenges it faces and the risks it has witnessed recently, and pointed out that the current developments in Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip appear positive and call for optimism.

With regard to the Syrian issue, His Highness explained that the Syrian people have great capabilities and enormous resources, which provides a real opportunity to push Syria towards a very positive path, stressing the importance of the international community’s participation in enhancing this and supporting the Syrian people to achieve a better future vision.

His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that the Kingdom has noticed a strong desire from the new Syrian government to communicate with partners in the region and the international community, citing his meeting with the Foreign Minister of the new Syrian administration in Riyadh, and his participation in the Riyadh meetings on Syria hosted by the Kingdom last week.

His Highness stressed the importance of lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria to enable everyone to provide assistance to the brotherly Syrian people, and he also indicated that the Kingdom took the initiative to provide early humanitarian and relief assistance as part of its efforts to alleviate the human suffering in Syria.

With regard to the Lebanese issue, His Highness considered the election of a new president for Lebanon after a long period of political vacuum “a very positive thing,” stressing the need for Lebanon to continue implementing serious reforms that reflect its aspirations for a better future, and expressing his hope that the Lebanese themselves will assume the responsibility of making decisions that will push their country towards a different and more stable path.
