The U.S. Embassy in Cairo is proud to celebrate the groundbreaking achievements of the first cohort of 25 Egyptian students to graduate with dual degrees from Galala University and Arizona State University (ASU).
The ceremony to mark this historic occasion at Galala University included leaders and faculty from ASU, who traveled to Egypt to honor the inaugural graduating class of a partnership designed to bring the power of an American higher education experience to the next generation of Egyptian leaders, innovators, and professionals.
U.S. Embassy Cairo’s Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy Ruben Harutunian delivered remarks celebrating the graduates and highlighting the enduring importance of U.S.-Egyptian educational partnerships, stating:
“These partnerships allow us to showcase the excellence, ground-breaking innovation, and industry-focused approach of American universities like ASU to expand opportunities for Egyptian students to gain the knowledge, skills, and global experience needed to succeed in an increasingly inter-connected world.”
The ceremony also featured remarks from leadership at ASU and Galala University, accompanied by presentations and videos celebrating the graduates’ academic milestones.
A Partnership Rooted in Innovation
Forged in 2019 with support from Cintana Education, the ASU-Galala partnership launched its dual-degree academic studies in 2022. The program enables Galala students to pursue dual degrees across high-demand disciplines—including business administration, marketing, computer information systems, software engineering, information technology, graphic information technology, and electrical engineering. Students can complete their degrees entirely at Galala University or spend their final academic year at ASU in Phoenix, Arizona.

Established in 2020 as a private, non-profit “smart” university, Galala University offers 45 programs across 17 fields of study, emphasizing modern, active learning in critical industries. Arizona State University’s comprehensive partnership with Galala University builds on its longstanding record of engagement with Egyptian higher education institutions through U.S. government-supported initiatives in energy, education, research, and workforce development—strengthening academic ties and broadening the scope of U.S.-Egypt collaboration in higher education and innovation.
