📌 Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation on Thursday, 18 September, with U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, as part of regular contacts to follow developments in Gaza and the Iranian nuclear file, and to coordinate efforts toward regional de-escalation.
During the call, Minister Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to halt ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, warning of their catastrophic humanitarian consequences. He reaffirmed Egypt’s categorical rejection of Israeli plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land, describing such schemes as a direct threat to regional stability and a deliberate attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause. He underlined that Palestinians must remain steadfast on their soil, calling for an immediate ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza and restore a measure of stability to the region.
The discussion also touched on the Iranian nuclear file, particularly the agreement reached in Cairo on 9 September between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency—the first breakthrough since the Israeli assault on Iran. Minister Abdelatty briefed the U.S. envoy on Egypt’s efforts to contain escalation, delay the reactivation of UN sanctions, and encourage a resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States.
